On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of orbiting space by Yuri Gagarin – which will be observed by UNESCO based on a decision by the General Conference -, and with the sponsorship of the Permanent Delegation of the Russian Federation, the Melody for Dialogue among Civilizations Association in collaboration with the UNESCO Secretariat and the Permanent Delegations of the United States of America, the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Germany to UNESCO and others, is organising a series of events to celebrate the peaceful uses of outer space. The day’s programme includes an International Forum on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and an exhibition of space-related materials and photos. The celebration will culminate with a multicultural concert and ballet performance entitled “Astro Ballet” A musical performance with artists and dancers from various countries and cultures.

Designed around a new composition by a NASA-affiliated composer Mr. Andrew Kaiser, this multimedia extravaganza blends music for strings and ballet with the celestial sounds of outer space. This part of the programme will be enhanced by a production of some interactive high-definition videos and pictures as background and staging of the ballet. The international ballet dancers, who perform on an illuminated platform that appears to flute in space, will give rise to an extraordinary feeling of zero gravity.
